Holiday time 2017 and we decided to take advantage of a special deal a local high end Hotel was offering to tantalize customers to come in on a Monday evening. Half Price Bottles, no matter what it is! So my husband Dan and I and one other couple decided to have a “Bubble night” and splurge on 2 bottles of Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne. We paired the Champagne with some Oysters on the half shell and we enjoyed a 2002 and 2004 vintage. What an experience! They were so very different from each other. The 2002 was vibrant and rich yet light, with some honey and nougat hints. We even picked up some nectarine fruit notes. The 2004 was much more weighty and powerful. Chardonnay seemed to play the feature roll and it showed off considerable fruit notes and to me actually tasted like a older vintage than the 2002.
Needless to say this will not be a habit, maybe a tradition, but certainly was memorable!
I urge you to find specials where you live and try something different or maybe even over the top like we did, I don’t think youll regret it. Salud
